Over the last few years i have been helping out with the Starwars Fanfilm - Descendants of Order 66.

I decided to help out with the project as they had literally gone all over the world filming at the proper locations. The official website can be found here.

I will be updating (and backdating) some of the 3D work i have done for them here.

Learning from my last few outings, i’ll be bringing much more life & detail to the scenes.

My new system utilizes X-Ref’s, a function in Cinema 4D that allows me to update multiple files at once. Something invaluable in the production of a full scale battle.

You can watch a mo-cap test top right. More soon..

For now i’m just looking into what animation controls best allow him to express himself.

In the original film they dressed a poor elephant called Mardji in a fur coat & mask, all in the baking tunisian sun.

This time I spent more time looking at the original films to add some of the classic character to the way it walks. I hope that shows through.

Handheld camera movement, flashing lights & special effects.

These shots weren’t finished until nearly the end of the year. But it makes for a great couple of seconds in the final film.

Even just animating it’s great to be interacting with light sabers & the force!

This guy is a great example.

These droids are great, from the way they move to the complicated way they deploy. The youtube clip is from a test animatic with a proxy mesh.

While it was a nightmare to rig and animate i think the final shot worked out just great.

I found a model of the Jedi council online (made by Ian Foster). I roughed it up a bit, adding blaster marks & general damage.

I made took one of the troopers i’d made recently & gave him the 501st colours. The famous squad that helped Vader to decimate the Jedi on Coruscant.

I wanted to show the time immediately after the execution of Order 66. When the clones had time to contemplate the duty they had just carried out.

The wallpaper can be found here.

I was in the mood to do a little modeling & decided i was up for a challenge animation wise. The modeling was quite simple of this guy.

Making him walk was much more fun. I even made a basic rig out of lego so i could get the motion looking just right. I think it paid off.

Making the nose cannon fire was the final touch. & you can see the test animatic to the right.

Another Descendants first if i’m not wrong..

Though based on the (not made yet) AT-ST, the way they walk was quite different.

Of course this is the battle where the grand army of the republic becomes the galactic empire. The turning point where the allies become the occupiers. This machine was a key part of that forced transition.

The battle on Kashyyyk couldn’t have been fought without the CIS Persuader attack platform.

I built this & then spent ages doing tests & getting it to look just right, both on & off the water.

One of these tests can be seen on the right.
